The White Review: A Journal for Our Times

The White Review is an arts and literature quarterly specialising in artistically or educationally meritorious works of new artists and writers. Drawing its name from La Revue Blanche, a Parisian magazine which ran from 1889 to 1903, The White Review is inspired by the tradition of modernist literary and artistic journals, whilst also representing an attempt to create a space for emerging artistic and literary forms in the twenty-first century.

In this podcast, editors Benjamin Eastham and Jacques Testard talk about their inspirations in founding the journal, its reason for being, and the processes of setting up a new print publication. They also offer an insight into the challenges and rewards of working in a career in publishing.

This podcast was recorded as part of a lecture series to accompany Outrageously Modern!, an exhibition of avant-garde magazines at Durham’s Palace Green Library. A second podcast, on The Great War in the Magazines, is also available to download from this website.
