READ at Home: Postcards from our Academic Community

During the current coronavirus situation, our academic community is spread far and wide. Our offices and libraries are closed. However, our staff and students are still doing what they can, where they can. Welcome to a series of snapshots into the home offices and working lives of our English Studies staff and students, bringing everyone closer even as we try to work remotely.

We’ll be populating and updating this series every couple of days. You can also follow the series on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #READAtHome.

We’d like to acknowledge that in using a word like ‘home’ many people may feel displaced; in saying that we’re ‘working’ this will mean different things to different people with different responsibilities at this time. So as the series continues, our diverse experiences in the current moment will be reflected not just in laptops and books you might associate with academic work, but cats and kids and musical instruments and tidy tables and chaotic sofas.

We know everyone is doing their best, whatever and wherever that means, and hope this series proves an inspiring reminder of how we can carry on with various responsibilities and activities, despite the circumstances.
