Gillian Allnutt Launches her New Collection, wake (Reading and Book Launch, 23rd May)

The North East poet Gillian Allnutt will read from and launch her new collection, wake, on 23rd May, in an event organised by her publisher, Bloodaxe. Join Gillian at St Chads College Chapel, Durham from 19.00. A glass of wine will be offered following the reading.

When Gillian Allnutt was awarded the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry, Carol Ann Duffy wrote that her work ‘has always been in conversation with the natural world and the spiritual life’. Her latest collection, wake, shows the two beginning to meld into one: to speak for, even as, one another.

Her latest collection, wake, shows the two beginning to meld into one: to speak for, even as, one another. As her title signals, these are poems about looking back, keeping watch over the dying and death of an old world and the ways of being human in that world; but also forward, waiting for the new world and being ready to awaken to it when it comes.

Wake will be published by Bloodaxe on 24 May 2018. You can listen to Gillian reflect on her life’s work in poetry, and read from three of her poems, in this podcast interview with Suzannah V. Evans.
