North East English Literature and Book Events in December 2017

A festive red Christmas advent calendar made of material fabric and felt featuring hearts

Open an advent calendar of literary treats with December’s literary events newsletter, rounding up book-based activities across the North East. If the elves don’t already deliver the newsletter to you by email, subscribe now.

Among the festive highlights, our own Horace Walpole and His Legacies public lecture series concludes with renowned author Fred Botting exploring the origins and future of gothic, and Fiona Robertson discussing how the reputation of Walpole as a writer waxed and waned over time.

Changing the subject only slightly a lot, three academics will deliver a dose of insight into Breaking Bad at a public seminar on 4th December.

In Newcastle, the Books on Tyne festival continues until 3rd December, while Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts has a programme of events that include the award ceremony for the Flambard Poetry Prize.

This is just a snapshot of some of the events to look forward to in December. Subscribe to our full listing for more, or keep in touch with us on Twitter or Facebook for reminders and additional events. Follow or post using the hashtag #NorthEastLiteratureEvents to publicise your own activities.
