North East English Literature Events in August 2017

If you’re packing your bags and heading away from the North East for a while this August, you’re going to miss out. No, not the glorious sunshine (ahem!) but the lineup of literature and book events coming up this month.

In particular, August sees the return of our own popular Late Summer Lecture Series. This year’s lectures are themed around “Change,” and kick off on 16th as Madelaine Smart takes us back to the mythical land of Albion, home of giants, witches and devils and – eventually – to the British people themselves. Lectures take place each Wednesday at 17.30 in Alington House, and are free with no need to book.

Another regional highlight is GeorgeFest, a celebration of all things Georgian in Richmond. Several events centre on the historic Theatre Royal, including a lecture on The Fight for Shakespeare.

Lastly, there’s still time to launch into the future with Time Machines at Palace Green Library. Enjoy a double-bill of films at Durham’s Gala Cinema, introduced by Simon James, on 13th August.
