Two fantastic festivals are taking place in our region this April. From 28th April Hexham Book Festival brings speakers such as Lemn Sissay, Margaret Hodge MP, BBC Security Correspondent Frank Gardner, novelists Maggie O’Farrell and Louise Doughty, and many more, including exciting new novelists, short story writers and poets. And if you are into crime (in a literary, not literal, sense) then creep over to Newcastle Noir from 24th to 30th April, with talks and workshops on topics ranging from Northern noir to femmes fatales.
Elsewhere this month, the theme of poetry in anxious times runs through several events. Join Margins Bookshop for a discussion of Poetry of Anxiety and Uncertainty, commemorate the well-known First World War poets in a special reading at Ushaw College, or find out about an unusual female war poet, who never went to war at the Word.
