Cuckoo Young Writers Summer School (2nd-4th August)

Poster for Cuckoo Young Writers Summer School 2-4 August 2016

A free creative writing summer school for 12-19 year olds is coming to Durham this summer, brought to you by New Writing North and Cuckoo Young Writers

The three-day summer school from 2-4 August will give young people the chance to work with a range of different writers, covering everything from poetry to songwriting to writing reviews. Young people can sign up for a single session or come along for the whole week.

Following the summer school, New Writing North will be establishing a Cuckoo Young Writers group at Gala Theatre, which will run weekly on a Saturday from 10 September, 11-1pm, where keen young writers can continue to flex their writing muscles.

Cuckoo Young Writers is New Writing North’s development programme for young people. The aim of all Cuckoo’s work is to support young writers to realise their potential. Cuckoo Young Writers wants to both develop skills and nurture talent, and also encourage those young people who don’t think of themselves as writers to get involved and have a go. Cuckoo creates environments where young writers can make friends, develop their confidence, try out new things (songwriting, drama, zine-making etc.) and have fun.

To book a place on the summer school or for more information, young people can email or phone 0191 204 8851. You can also find Cuckoo on Facebook and Twitter.
