Celebrate the 50th anniversary year of Basil Bunting’s modernist masterpiece, Briggflatts, with a series of events – most of them free – taking place in Newcastle on 24th and 25th June.

Friday 24th June

6-8pm – A reading by young generation poets, in tribute to Bunting’s Briggflatts, Culture Lab, King’s Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne
Readers: Jo Clement, John Challis, Fruela Fernandez, Ed Luker, Rhys Trimble, Alex Niven, Kris Johnson

Saturday 25th June

10.30am (meet at Central Station)- A walking tour of Bunting’s Newcastle led by the Newcastle City Guides

1pm – A collective reading of Briggflatts, Morden Tower, Back Stowell Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE1 1SE

2.30pm – Yale University historian Keith Wrightson, on Newcastle during the plague year of 1636, Morden Tower, Back Stowell St.

7.00pm – A tribute concert featuring music and poetry by Tom Pickard, Richard Dawson, Jude Murphy and Banjo Billy Lloyd, Mining Institute, Westgate Rd, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 1SE
