Sharpen your quills, tap your typewriters, or do wonders with Word. Whatever your writing device, you are invited to submit your creative work to the next issue of the literary magazine, From the Lighthouse, which is run by Durham University’s English Society. Submissions are open to any writer, not just Durham University students.
Submissions can be in any genre: prose, poetry, drama, essays, translations and so on. The deadline for submissions is Friday 27th November, and the next issue will be published before the end of December. See the website for more information.
While the magazine welcomes contributions from writers based anywhere, From the Lighthouse also runs a separate annual competition just for Durham students. This is for short stories, flash fiction and poetry only. It will be judged by poet Helen Mort and Mslexia editor and novelist Debbie Taylor, with cash and other prizes. The deadline for the competition is Sunday 24th January.
