“Efface the Traces!” Modernism and Influence

Virginia WoolfAn international conference taking place in April 2013 will develop and share new work on modernism and cultural influence.

“Efface the Traces!” Modernism and Influence will bring together leading academic and postgraduate researchers from across the world. The conference will serve as an international forum through which to share new work on cultural modernism.

The specific remit of the conference is to interrogate the narratives of influence which conventionally attach to modernist authors. This will serve two interconnected purposes: to challenge the orthodoxies which inform discussion of the cultural location of canonical modernist figures, and to expose the work of non-canonical figures whose contributions to modernist poetics have been occluded by these same orthodoxies.

The conference will feature three plenary speakers who are leading figures in contemporary modernist studies: Dr Marina MacKay (Durham University), and Dr Matthew Bevis and Dr Ankhi Mukherjee (both University of Oxford). The Call for Papers closes on 1st Janurary 2013. For more information on submitting a proposal, please see the conference webpage.

The three-day conference will take place from 9th to 11th April 2013 in St. Chad’s College, Durham University.
